SHS holds successful pet food distribution on Tinian, Rota | Local News

One of the major trends in animal sheltering and humane societies nationwide is understanding the reasons behind pet surrenders and providing support to help individuals keep their beloved pets.

As part of this ongoing effort, the Saipan Humane Society is delighted to announce a successful food distribution event to aid pet owners on Tinian and Rota, sponsored by Veterinarians Without Borders.

The event was made possible through the generous support of several organizations and dedicated individuals. The pet food, which proved to be a lifeline for many pet owners, was shipped by the US Coast Guard Forces Micronesia-Sector Guam to Rota and Tinan. The food purchased and preparation was organized by Guam Animals In Need and the Boonie Flight Project on Guam’s side.

On Tinian, the event was coordinated by Saipan Cares for Animals Tinian Branch, with special thanks to Miho Evangelista for her invaluable contributions.

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of these organizations, over 100 pet owners were provided with free pet food during the distribution event. This assistance alleviated the financial burden many pet owners face when trying to provide for their furry family members, ensuring that pets and their owners can continue to enjoy their special bond.

Building upon this trend, the Saipan Humane Society is now considering the establishment of a pet food pantry to further support the local pet community. Although the pantry is not yet formally established, the organization encourages everyone to keep an eye on their social media channels for updates on when future food distributions will take place.

This initiative exemplifies the power of community and collaboration to make a positive impact on the lives of both pets and their dedicated owners. By addressing the needs of pet owners and their animals, we hope to reduce pet surrenders and promote the welfare of pets in our community.
