Lost hens, gerbils, cats found shelter in Richmond last week

The animals are put up for adoption if they are not identified within 72 hours. Gerbils, cats and a hen were some of the lost animals that found a temporary home at the Richmond Animal Shelter over the past week. According to BC SPCA Richmond’s Facebook post on March 18, a pair of gerbils were found in an unknown Richmond location with no identification. Pet surrendered for rental requirements

The Lost Dogs’ Home has seen an increase over the past three years in the number of people surrendering their pets in the hope of securing a rental. Despite new laws which came into effect in 2020 granting tenants the right to own a pet when renting, the number of pets surrendered in the ‘moving/no pets allowed’ category has jumped by more than 47 per cent from 106 to 156 in the last three years.
