CENTRAL – A new pet pantry aimed at helping pet owners is coming to Sullivan Road. In 2023, the Companion Animal Alliance took in more than 9,000 animals and over 1,000 of them were owner surrenders. CAA said 166 of the owner surrenders were due to financial hardships. Sherry Blattenberger helps operate Dante’s Hope Animal Rescue. Donations needed as pet food costs rise: Guelph Humane Society

Pet food prices have gone up recently due to inflation. To help pet owners in the community, the Guelph Humane Society has started a pet food bank. It started as a pilot project last year and then became permanent in March, 2023. Staff say when they ended the pilot project there were around 100 people using it per month, but since then, use has tripled. Food is running low at shelters run by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA) and the community is being asked to make donations. Due to an increase in animal intake, the shelters are experiencing a shortage of food supplies to meet pets’ nutritional needs, said the SPCA LA in a statement. “With the increasing number of homeless and abandoned pets in our care, we find ourselves facing a critical shortage,” said SPCA LA President, Madeline Bernstein. Petsource by Scoular has completed a $75 million expansion at its Seward, Nebraska, plant that delivers extra capacity to help current customers grow and space to accommodate new customers seeking production at its state-of-the-art facility.
